How good of a skier am i? What level?

August 152009

Ive been skiing for 9 years, almost ten, so, since i was 5. I dont live in a place with very good skiing, but every winter for a week, me n my family go to mont tremblant quebec, and there i can ski all of the runs cept for a few double diamonds, i can ski one of the doubles, all of the single diamonds, all of the blues, and all of the greens. I can also ski moguls on the diamonds, and with twin tips, i can ski terrain parks and half-pipes, what level skiing am i?
oh, haha, i guess i did. I carve pretty well, not far from the pros in looks. theres beginner, beginner-intermediate, intermediate, advanced-intermediate, advanced, and Expert

You sound like an advanced skier (black diamonds / moguls), but since you asked how good you are in the Snowboarding forum I will have to say you are a beginner snowboarder.

Good Luck

Do French Canadians not know how to negotiate?

August 132009

I’m planning a ski trip up to mont tremblant for a ski group of about 18 people. I am trying to negotiate a lower price with these hotels… I told them I want it to be at 300$ per person, and theyre like quoting me ooo well its gonna be 325$ per person.. or 340 per person…

I’m like… its 18 people worth of business that are going to be eatin gin your restaurants, drinking in your bar, and possibly coming back again, and you can’t bring the price down 25-40$ per person? Thats like 30$ per night.

Is trying to negotiate with these people a lost cause? Is it just not in their culture?

I say this because american hotels seems to have a lot of wiggle room with the prices because they want you to stay there.
Thats ridiculous… I am not being unreasonable for negotiating a price. I have done it on countless ski trips in the US… I go low… they go high… we meet somewhere in the middle. Its called smart business. What companies do you know that sell bulk orders at ratail price without making a deal?

Perhaps business is good enough that they don’t need to be bullied into discounts.

Did Canada’s Universal Health Care Kill Natasha Richardson?

August 112009

http://www2.canada.com/nanaimodailynews/news/story.html?id=1411393

QUEBEC - The death Wednesday of British actress Natasha Richardson after she tumbled on a Quebec ski hill is raising questions about the province’s lack of an emergency helicopter system.

Richardson, 45, refused to be taken to hospital after the accident, but her condition worsened about two hours later. The actress was then transported to a hospital in Sainte-Agathe, Que., a 40-minute ambulance ride from the Mont Tremblant ski resort.

After she was stabilized, Richardson was transferred to a Montreal trauma centre by ambulance, because, unlike most provinces, Quebec has no emergency helicopter system. The trip took about one hour while a helicopter ride would have carried her to Montreal in 15 minutes.

So did Universal Healthcare fail Natasha? If they had a medical helicoptor, would she be alive today? They had to take her how many hours in a ambulance? Is this really what you want?
We take medical helicopters for granted here in the United States. My city has 4 of them. But they would be eliminated due to costs under a Universal Healthcare System.

Why isn’t the New York Times reporting this?

No. She refused to go to the hospital. The first hour after an accident if the most important. It was her own fault she died.

Whistler or Mount Tremblant?

August 92009

Which Canadian resort is better for skiing?

I really like going to tremblant but as much as I dislike whistler there really isn’t much of a comparion asfar as the skiing goes…whistler wins that hands down plus it gets pretty cold at Mt T. but tremblant is a great vacation destination reasonably priced and really cool atmosphere

What do you think about Intrawest properties/villages? Are they good investment/enjoyable options?

August 72009

We are thinking of buying a place up in M Tremblant in the intrawest managed resort, Do you think it is a good investment? We are thinking of it to spend summers with our kids so they can perhaps learn french and also to use it some winters for skiing. We think Intrawest is a good option because it can rent the property when not in use and because the resort2resort program. What do you think? Any suggestions? Should we look somewhere else? By the way we are from MExico City

Bad Investment, try just renting a place first…
