Going to skiing for march break….?

at Mont Tremblant, Quebec and I wanted to demo some skis there. I know you can demo there because that is where I got the skis I have right now (salomon x wings) but I wanted to demo twin tip skis. I have never had twin tips and because there so expensive i thought i should try them out first. So can I demo there? If so, which brand? and how much?

Advice for a Road trip from NJ / NY to Mount Tremblant, outside of Montreal Canada?

January 112010

My GF and I want to take a ski trip to Mount Tremblant from NJ, I found this info out so far but could use some more advice:
What I know:
- Cheaper to drive then fly (cost $100 round trip in fuel at 25 mpg, flight costs at least $250 PP-round).
- Only a 6 hour drive right up Route 87 (travel time to airport, flight and out of airport runs us at least 5 hours).
- Should bring Passports for boader.

What I need to know:
- Is there a better place to cross the boarder at Canda?
- How much in tolls can I expect
- any good place to stay near the mountain
- hot spots in Montreal
- any other sweet info to help out.

Driving up is a waay better idea.

Go straight up the 87. A nice stop near the border (decide which one is better - way there or back depending on when you drive) is at Au Sable Chasm in the USA. It’s about 6 miles off the road, and well worth it.

As for your questions:

- The 87 is usually pretty good at the border, but try to listen to traffic radio (620 AM) when you get near Plattsburgh. If they tell you there’s an hour wait or more (though usually there isn’t much of a wait), get off at the last exit and make a right. Stop in a gas station and get directions to the other border exit.

- Tolls? There’s only one toll. You’ll have to pay attention because if you remain on the 87 you wind up in Buffalo. So when you hit Albany remember to get off. The toll in total costs around 6 bucks, I think.

- Good places to stay near the mountain? if you can, stay ON the mountain. But I don’t know what your budget is, and I don’t know Tremblant too well.

- If you can get into a Canadiens game, it will be well worth it. Otherwise, walk around the underground city downtown and the old port. Also you might want to take i the nice view at the top of the mountain and bring some ice skates and a hockey stick to go outdoor skating (in every park) in the city.

Enjoy the skiing!

Marker Griffon Schizos bindings on my Salomon Lord skis? Opinions?

December 252009

Should I put them on, I like the idea of the 6cm of movement available.

I ski alot of Blue Mountain, but I always plan 3 trips to big resorts.

1 week - Whistler Blackcomb - 5 days skiing
1 week - Tremblant - 5 days skiing
1 week - Kicking Horse or Big White - 5 days

I get about 15 days of nice powder when I go on the trips and like to explore, like the gromers and hard packs and hit jumps and rails for fun.

With the capability of center, traditional, and set more back, I think I would get good use from the technology built in the binding, combined with around 30 days of skiing.

Any other bindings you can recommened, and are there any other bindings on the market with this technology?

Buy them. They are really good bindings, and definitely worth the money.

How can i learn how to ski?

November 272009

im going to tremblant in 3 weeks and the parks are just opening in most places since its late nov. i’ve never skiid since like 5th grade and i am 18 now. the last recent time and only time i went i couldnt do it. i could stand up right and i couldnt get up when i fell. ive never been taught how to ski, but i remember being able to when i was about 10-11. it’s been a while. i cant remember how to.? how can i do this? is there somewhere i can go to learn?

Lessons are your best bet. Learning how to ski alone can be very dangerous, and leaves a lot of room for developing horrible techniques. Getting lessons (offered at almost every single ski resort) will allow you to practice the best techniques from the start. I recommend a 6 hour private lesson one day, a 6 hour private lesson the next day, and a 3 hour private lesson the next day to really ready yourself and get familiar with the mountain. If you don’t have sufficient cash on you to pay for the private lessons, join a group lesson and the rates decrease a lot (I’m not aware of your financial background so I wouldn’t know what’s best for you). After taking lessons for a few days, you’ll be able to ski most of the black diamond trails at 99% of American ski resorts. Good luck skier! Hope this helped!

How can I learn how to ski?

November 222009

I have a trip coming up in 3 weeks to Mont Tremblant and i want to learn how to ski before then. I remember being able to when i was 10 or 11 but the last time i went skiing i wasn’t very good. I couldn’t stand up and i kept falling and then i wouldn’t be able to get up.

What I would do is go to some small ski place and take a ski school class. If you cant get to a ski place then I would read about skiing, and how to ski… But it will be very hard to learn with out taking a class.

Bus Rentals in Canada?

October 72009

Ok so, here’s the deal,
My class and I are going from our school in Mississauga to a skiing trip in Mont Tremblant, Quebec. The distance is 681km (approx.7 hours and 11 minutes). What bus must we rent (there’s 21 of us) to go there and come back. How much does it cost to rent the bus?

plzzz…help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Find local charter-bus companies and ask for price quotations. Buses come in different sizes, and the price is higher for a coach than a school bus. Some have toilets and some don’t. Most have DVD players. A Google search shows many charter companies operating out of the Toronto area. It will be quite expensive - a few years ago we paid $1200-$1500 for a 56-passenger coach for one day and about 700km of driving, and that was in a cheaper market than Toronto. We also provided meals for the driver and a tip.

Keep in mind that for a long trip, it’s helpful to have some extra space for people to spread out and for luggage.

Do you want a bus and driver to stay with you during the trip? Find out whether you will need to pay for the driver’s accommodation and meals or whether the company will take care of them. Bus drivers from Ontario are strictly limited in the length of their working day (I think it is 14 hours) so that may also be a planning concern.
